Facebook and Social Marketing
Welcome to my blog.
I’m glad you’re here.
I haven’t quite decided the direction I’m going to take with this new adventure. I guess that’s what makes it an adventure in the first place.
Because we’ve been discussing social media and its impact on our industry and careers, it would only be appropriate to begin with a discussion of the social media campaigns that I’ve found inspirational and just plain cool.
First is the Red Bull U campaign done by one of my favorite agencies, Archrival. Archrival is a tiny shop located in Lincoln, Nebraska that has been recognized and won awards on a national level. Red Bull has partnered with Facebook in 2007 to launch this application to college students around the country. The first application to come out of this initiative was Red Bull Roshambull. Red Bull Roshambull is an online version of rock, paper, scissors. More recently, Red Bull Athletics has launched Red Bull 1st Person. The web site serves as a launching pad to the contest which encourages college students to send in short videos on why they should be considered to be Red Bull’s First Person. The winner of this online contest will have the opportunity to learn and train from Red Bull’s professional athletes in any sport of their choice.
Another cool application unveiled by Archrival in February 2008 is the Tree Planter Application for the Arbor Day Foundation. For $1 you can plant a tree through the application and the Arbor Day Foundation will in turn plant that tree in one of the national forests across the United States in your name.
The next application that has yet to be launched is a promotion for Acura featuring the Acura TSX. I will post a link as soon as the application goes live.
